Mr. H. P. Wyatt, of the Telegraph Department, Wellington, has been appointed Superintendent of Telegraphs at Christcliurch. Mr. A. J. 'lnlbot, of Christchurcli, has been appointed to a. similar position in Wellington. The change will be effected this week. Mr. Wyatt has for some years been a popular member of the Wellington Bowling Club. In Christchurcli lie will play for the Christcliurch Club.

The Rev. J. K. Archer who began his ministry in the Vivian' Street Baptist Church yesterday, has had a wide and varied experience. For three and a half years he was assistant pastor to the Rev. Thomas Barrass, of Peterborough, England, where the congregations averaged over 800. At Heptonstall Slack, Yorkshire, where he stayed seven years, ho had a membership of 350. His last English pastorate was Great Grimsby. Since arriving in New Zealand ho has served the Baptist denomination in both Napier and Invercargill. Mr.' Archer, who is a forceful. speaker, i makes a special feature of work among men.

Mr. Harry Cohen, who acted as treasurer for the Plimmer-Hall Comedy Company, and has since been connected with the Hugh D. M'lntosh and Frederic Shinman managements, intends to leave Wellington for Sidney en route to London on February 17. Mr. Colien is a son of Mr. Albert Cohen, of the editorial staff of the Dunedin "Star." It is Mr. Cohen's intention to enlist at Homo.

Mr. J. Caughley, the new Assistant Director of Education, who is a bowling enthusiast, has joiued the 'Wellington Bowling Club.

Private W. A. Wright, of the 10th Reinforcements, a son of Police-Inspec-tor Wright, of Dunedin, formerly of Wellington, received a present in the form of a wristlet watcli from friends at Island Bay on Friday evening.

Miss Bull, who intends leaving for England shortly, recently tendered her resignation as a member of tho staff of tho Miramar Borough and at tho last meeting of the council her resignation was accepted with many expressions of regret.

The funeral of the late Reginald Muinford, who was drowned in tho Hutt Bivcr 011 Thursday last, took place on Saturday afternoon, and was largely attended. The deceased was a. corporal in D Company, oth Wellington l?egiment, and in consequence the entiro company paraded as a mark of respect, under Captain Siinn Sergt. Ward was in charge of the firing party, and the Rev. IVm, Beckett conducted the service at tlie Taita Cemetery. The Regimental Band played the Dead March iu "Saul." The late Mr. Albert Edward Tyrrell Devore, whose death was reported from Auckland on Friday, was thrice returned unopposed as Mayor of Auckland, and occupied the Mayoral chair from December 15, 1886, to December 18, 1889. He was born at Devizes, Wiltshire, England, in 1843, and was educated at Marlborough School. He left England for Dunedin in 1862, and removed to Auckland in 1879. When the Ponsonby ward became part of Auckland City lie represented it in the City Council, and continued in that capacity for a number of years. During his term as Mayor he reorganised the finances of the city, effecting a great saving in tlie expenses. The Auckland Public Library and the Art Gallery lvere opened during his term. Mr.. Devore was for many years a member of tho Auckland Harbour Board, and ho was also a trustee of the Auckland Savings Bank. He always evinced_ a keen interest in social affairs, and invariably studied the welfare of the city. He was elected president of tho Auckland Rugby Union in. 1890. The late Mr. Devore was senior partner in tlie firm of Messrs. Devore, Martin, and Prendergast, which, in tlie earlier days, was known as Messrs. Devore and Cooper. Private William C. Price, who was reported missing, and is now, by Court of Inquiry, believed to be dead, left with the Main Body of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. He was the onfy surviving son of tlie late Mr. J. C. Price, formerly on the of the Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, and grandson of the lato William Price (surgeon), Somerset, England. Tho late Private Price, who was well known in business circles in the city, served with the 10th Contingent in South Africa.
