UNIVERSITY SENATE
CONCESSIONS TO SOLDIER STUDENTS. Concluding business was transacted at tliQ sitting of t'lic Senate of the University of New Zealand yesterday. The Chancellor, Sir Robert Stout, presided. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr. H. F. Von Haast: That in the case of candidates sitting for University examinations before going into camp, and claiming concessions under the Now Zealand University Amendment Act, 1915, no concession be granted unless the following conditions are complied with: (1) The candidate has before the examination volunteered for active service, has been passed and accepted as fit, and produces a certificate to that effect from the Defence Department or some recognised recruiting officer. (2) That he subsequently _ proceeds and continues oil active scrvice until he is discharged in due course for some cause not dishonourable. (3) That a candidate who complies with these conditions be credited with a pass in all those subjects in which lie actually passes, whether they make up a section or not, and in those subjects in which, although ho fails, his macks arc so close to the minimum required for a pass tliat the Senate might fairly consider that but for his enlistment ho would have passed in the subject. The following were appointed the examiners for the Habens Prize for 1917: Professor Anderson, Mr. Hogbon, and Mr. Pinder. The subject for the Habens Prize essay must be connected with the scionce .of education, with a spccial reference to child study or to the conditions affecting education in Now Zealand. Moderators were appointed for the December examinations.
