ASSAULT ON ERZERUM ; BEGUN BY THE RUSSIANS FIGHTING IN THE CAMEROONS SUCCESS OF BRITISH TROOPS Various interesting additions are made, to-day to the story of the German raider Moewe and her prize, the Appam. Germany, it is stated, relies upon a treaty made in 1828 as giving her the right to \ take a prize into a United States.port. According to one brief message it is officially announced in W asliington that the United States . regard the Appam as a prize. Mystery still'surrounds the identity of the Moewe, but the Governor of Sierra Leone, who was a passenger aboard the Appam, is credited with a statement that the raider was a'steamer of 4000 tons,-heavil y armed. Further particulars are given of the late Zeppelin'raid on England, showing the nature of the damage done. That, the giant air ships are not having it all their own way is indicated in an official report that one of them has been wrecked at sea. From Washington it is reported that Count Berustorff was on Thursday to admit the illegality of, the sinking of the Lusitania, and promise America an-indemnity;' The Compulsion Act comes into force in Great' Britain on Thursday next. , As regards the land campaigns, interest centres at the moment in news that the Russians. hare commenced assaults on Erzerunj, and that the Turks are; massing heavy reinforcements. There is little detail news from the,main theatres, but one report, speaks of a'great calm 011 the whole Russian state of affairs obviously nqt likely to last— and another of a heavy concentration. by the Germans in Belgipm, as if in preparation for an assault.
