NOTES AND COMMENTS
IBY oLEscor.l The Egmont Racing Club's Summer Meeting will be concluded to-day. Acceptances for the Midsummer Meetins at Riccartou, also subscriptions i'or the Middle Park Plato are due to-night. Acceptances for the Taranaki Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting close on Saturday night. It was intended to race Ivaiserine and Pearlform at the Gisborne Meeting which opens to-day, but the latter developed a bad cold at tho Wniroa meeting, and the pair have been returned to Palmerston North. Included in the runners iu the Hurdles at Gisborne to-day is the useful Scorch, a previous winner on the same course. Sho lias a concession of 1011}. from Kow, who is top-weight with list. 31b. In the Gisborne Cup to-day J. Buchanan will steer Castalia, and W. Ryan will bo 011 Kiipahu, Kyan won the event named last year on Iliad's Hero. Pursefiller has three engagements at Gisborne to-day, but. it is s:cnerally thought that her mission will be iho Cup, which- her owner, Mr. P. Lysnar, a vicepresident of the Club, is very anxious to will. Dispatch Carrier, runner-up to Pursefiller in the big handicap at Hastings on January 3, seems to be coming back to form. The big chestnut is engaged in the Park Handicap, seven furlongs, at Gisborne to-day. As was anticipated Interlude ivas too speedy for tho lot she met in the Mere ■Mere . Hack Handicap at Hawera yesterday. Her lessee, T. Long, seems to have worked a big improvement in tho filly lately, and she may win again shortly. The victory of Master Lupin in the big ! handicap; at Takapima yesterday bears out the report published on Tuesday that he was unlucky in the Cup. Those who supported tho Wangamii gelding in each of his starts would show a good profit. The well-known racehorse, Firmhold, was gold last week in Dnnedin for ,£4, The Rangitikei Racing Club have increased the stakes for the Rangitikei Cud, which will now be' 300 sovs. first horse, 50 sovs. second horse, and third 25 sovs. The rider of the winner will Teceive a gold mounted whip, which has been presented by Mr. Jas. Bull. / A Warrington Stud representative. Sortolena, by Sartq—Ventalora, won tho nrincinal event at the Tasmanian Amateur Jockey Club's meeting on January 19. It is understood that Sir George M'Lean'may sell somo of the Warrington yearlings in New Zealand this season.
The two-year-old fillv Cttltriform, who was successful at the Takapuna meeting on Saturday, is a half-sister to the speedy Culprit, by Boniform—Culroy. Early in the season she was spoken of as being one of the best of Auckland's juvenile brigade, but she lias not coma up to expectations, this being the first win credited to her. Among the winners at Takapuna, on Saturday was Munstcr, who was the subject of a law case in Auckland last week. Muhster is a seven-year-old" welding by Snalpecn, and he is apnarently a useful customer, taking a line from some of his recent performances. Rtepniak has not many representatives lo p t on the turf, but one of them cropped up as a winner at Takapuna on Sat•urday. This was Tinoreka, a five-voar-old mare, who beat a bisr field of hack'sprinters in the Ferry' Handicap, and scored anoin yesterday in open company. Florist scored a very easy win in the Hack Hurdles at.Hawera yesterday, but the strong support accorded Collector, who was making his first appearance in a hurdle race, caused the top-weijht to give a good return to his supporters. Alces, who formerly carried Mr. P. Hunter's colours, is now owned bv Mr. T. F. Walker, of Hustings, and. has ijone into W. Kirk's stables. Zetes, who won the concluding event at Hawera yesterday, is an age'd "elding by Zetes from Iscult. He has"not won a racn for over twelve months, and lately he has been siven to bleeding at the nose. He runs in the colours of the Hawera trainer, O. Cox. In her previous races Tact has never been successful over a further distance than six furlongs, but vesterdav, after getting beaten in the sprint event, she came out and scored in. the mile Welter at Takapuna. The North Shore course greatly assists sprinters to get a distance as it is very round.

Garrard and Ritchie had been requested to investigate the matter during the course of Hie Forbury Park Club's meeting. In Hie course of a report on the subject Mr. Garrard said the owner (A. Dawes) had been called upon to produce the horse for inspection on the Forbury I'nrk course on Friday last, but the owner said the hor?e was too soro to be brought there, though on the following day it had been taken in to Dunedin.
