NATIONAL RESERVE
BROOKLYN BRANCH. The first annual report of the Brooklyn, branch of the National Reserve states that Mr. Stcol, O.C. of the section, proved a very able commander, well fitted for the position which he is now about to take up, as instructor of n.c.o.'s to' the National Reserve. A rifle club was formed during the year, and Mr. Fitchett earned the hearty thanks of the unit for the free use of the brick kiln for tho purpose. Members havo freely given money, time, and energy to complete the range. The branch' has been the means of sending its quota of partially trained men to the New Zealand Expeditionafy Forces. A. n.c.o class was held through which several members attained n.c.o. rank in the sections. Dummy rifles were purrliased, and- much useful drill was given iluririg the latter part of tho year. A donation was made to the section by Mr. Holc'roft, by which Brooklyn holds one of the most' valuable shooting shields in the National Reserve. It was won in the first match bv No. 4 section. The Brooklyn School "Committee is thanked for the use of the room' and grounds. Filially, the executive asks members to rally round The section leaders and 0.0. and use their best endeavours in the coming year to obtain new recruits and keep attendance at parades at a much higher level than in tho past. Tho treasurer's bal-apce-sheet for the branch and miniature rifle club showed a small surplus on the .year's work. , The report was adopted at the annual meeting, held on Wednesday evening (Mr. George Frost presiding). The election of officers for tho ensuing year resulted as follows-Presi-dent, Mr. George Frost (re-elected); vice-president, Captain J. W. Steel; seoretary, Mr. H.'IV Cooper (re-elect-ed); treasurer, Mr. J. Rose (re-elected); committee, Messrs. C. Holcroft, W. Perkins, R. Garters, G. Monkhouse, A. Pennefold, and W. Parkin. A voto of thanks was passed to the School Committee for the use of the room.
On Tuesday evening tlie weekly parade, of tlie Island Bay-Bcrhampore Company of the Reserve was held on Wakefield Park, and showed a satisfactory attendance, especially as many of . the members are still absent on holiday. Tlie work consisted of company drill, followed by -"some useful practice in extended order formation, illustrating the methodof supporting and reinforcing a firing line. Tlie parade concluded with guard drill under the platoon commanders.'
