ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
PETONE DIVISION^ The distribution of Borne 86 certificates gained during the year, by members of the Petone Ambulance Division, took place last evening at St. Augustine's Hall, Petone. The Mayor (Mr. .T. W. M'Ewan) presided over the gathering, which took the form of a social evening, and there were present: As-sis'tant-Commissioner Seed, Superintendent Hislop (Wellington Centre), and District Superintendent Cox (Petone). Tfia Ladies' Nursing Division was well represented. In the course of a speech AssistantCommissioner Seed spoke of the good record of the Petone Ambulanco Division. Commencing in 1904 with but a few members (it was the 3rd Division in the Wellington' District at that time) it had grown to its present strength, and on more than one occasion it had been the means of saving life. Its members had been prominent in carrying tlio first lot of wounded soldiers from the Willochra, a duty that they <Hd successfully. In referring to the amount collected for Ambulance work .at Hie front, Mr. Seed stated that about £1000 had been raised by various corps for this important work. Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., congratulated the successful members on gaining certificates and drew attention to the fact, in presenting the cards, that some of the moil had qualified for what was primarily a woman's work —home nursing. (Laughter.) The certificates were then presented. A musical programme was rendered and was contributed to by the following: Misses Allen, Foster, Cross, WilforJ, and Martin; Messrs. Chamberlain, Bryant, Wood, Burrows, and Jletlhurst nnd party. Miss V, D&vies noted as accompanist.
