MAGISTRATE'S COURT
CIVIL BUSINESS SOME DEFENDED ACTIONS Deserved judgment was given in the Magistrate's Court 'by 3lr. W. G. Hiddell, S.M., yesterday in the defended civil action in which the plaintiff was E. Hughes and the defendant J. E. Fitzgerald. The claim was for £23 for return of part of pure/base money paid on a motor-cycle. Judgment was for 'he defendant, with costs amounting to £2 16s.
The Magistrate also decided a defended action in which the plaintiffs were W. E. Bedstone, estate agent, of Wellington, and H. P. Richmond, solicitor, of Auckland. The former had been a partner of the late A. J. M'lavish, while the latter was executor of the will of the late A. J. MTavish. The plaintiffs proceeded against IDnima Anno Cotter, widow, of Silvcrstream, to recover a balance of money due as interest. Judgment wa,s given for the plaintiffs for £110, with costs £3 &.
Bernard 0. Kirk proceeded against Lieut. G. B. Carter to recover the sum of £8 alleged to bo due on a mess suit. Judgment was given for the plaintiff for £6. with costs £4 Bs.
Judgment was reserved in the oaso of Alfred de Bathe Brandon, solicitor, of Wellington, v. Harold W. Brown, merchant, of Wellington. The claim was for £50 alleged to be duo as damages in respect of a collision, which occurred on the Paekakariki Hill on October 24 last, between plaintiff's motorcar and defendant's* motor-car. There was a counter-claim for £11 Is. 6d.
UNDEFENDED CLAIMS. Judgment by default was given for the plaintiffs in the following undefended claims,, which were dealt with by Air. W. G.. Riddell, S.M.: —Jerusalem and Co., Ltd 1 ., v. H. B. Gormley. £5 17s. 6d.. costs £1 7s. Gd.; Gideon Lamb v. C. Childs, Bs. 3d., costs 65.; Jolmsonville Town Board v. William Dulling. costs only, 165.; James Frederick Clark v. Devlin Jameson. £7 45., costs JOs.; H. Price' and Co., Ltd., v. David E. Grieve, £6 IDs., costs £1 3s. 6d.; the Champion Co., Ltd., v. Mrs. Teresa Anderson, £9 13s. OcT., costs £1 3s. 6d. POLICEOASES. Police cases were heard before Sir. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M: Margaret Dond.v was' convicted of _ drunkenness and of being an idle and disorderly person, a sentence of one month's imprisonment being imposed. William 'Holbrook, who assaulted Herbert Williams, was drnnk at the_ time, and a ligllt fine only (205.) was imposed. The alternative was three days' imprisonment. Four first ofFending inebriates wero also dealt witli. JUVENILE COURT Two lads appeared before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., in the Juvenile Court yesterday morning. One was admonished and discharged for having firearms in his possession, while the other, who had stolen goods to the value of 45., was ordered to rccei?fe nine strokes of the birch.
