TWO SOLDIERS INJURED

AFFRAY ON THE MARAROA. At about 10 o'clock on Monday evening, during the run of the Mararoa from Lyttelton to an affray oceurred, as a result of whicli two soldiers (brothers) named O'Connell, members of the Tenth Reinforcements, who belong to Christcliurch, were taken to the Wellington Hospital on the arrival of the steamer from the 60uth at noon yesterday. From the somewhat vague accounts given it appeared that there was among the troops mi' board an extremely truculent individual, who went out of his way to pick a quarrel with one of the O'Coimells. The man fought viciously, and after knocking O'Connell down is Gaid to have administered a kick which broke the man's leg as ho lay on the deck. At this the brother of the injured inau rushed in to prevent further injury to the fallen man, but he received a fierce upper cut that sent him .to the deck with such violence that ho bumped the back of his head on tlie deck and sustained slight concussion of the brain. The aggressor was then placed under arrest by the military powers. On the arrival' of the Mararoa yesterday an ambulance was sent for, and the injured men wero driven off to the Hospital. Red Cross men; 011 board fixed up tbe fractured limb temporarily.
