DEPARTMENTAL PICNIC

The staff of the State 'Advances Office held their annual picnic at Lay's Bay on Friday last. Cricket and sports were the order of the day: Single men defeated the married men at cricket. Married women's race, Mrs. Collins, 1; Mrs. Wood, 2. Single Women's race, Miss 31. Kigg, 1. At the instance of Colonel Hiley, general manager of New Zealand Railways, Mr. H. M'Kcowcn represented the '.Railway, Department, and assisted in the conduct of the sports programme.
