CARTERTON NOTES
Fire on Saturday morning destroyed the residence of Mr. A. E. Smith, at Clarerille. Mrs. Smith was absent from home at the time on a holiday, and Mr. Smith' rose early, lighted the fire, and left tile room for a short time. A little later he returned to prepare breaks fast, and discovered the kitchen a, mass a. flame'. It was found impossible to stay the fire, and tlie whole place was destroyed. The dwelling was a new one, and was insured in the Northern Insurance office for £300, tlie same office having a policy of £150 on the furniture, etc. Since l the Wairarapa South County (!kmncil undertook the registration of motors a month ago, -twenty-six cars and cycles have been registered. The funeral of the late Mrs. E. M. Hixon, of Duncdin, took place at Clareville on Friday afternoon, tlie interment being private. The service was conducted by the Eev. E. J. Tipler, of St. Andrew's Church, and tlie pallbearers were: Messrs. D. B. Murray, J. Tidd (brother), -IS. Rixon (son), T. ■putlirio (nephew), Gr. Hughan, and J. fladley.
