Moital » arrived from Han Francisco, via Papeete and Rarotonga. Departure was taken from San Francisco on January 7,' and Papeete was reached on January 20, and Rarotonge, five days later. For the first two days of the voyage the vessel experienced rough seas, with, strong winds, but ofter that the trip was a line weather one; with moderate . trade winds. Some 1200 tons of cargo havo to be landed from the Maitai, and then r she proceds to Dunedin for docking and overhaul. On this account there will be r no 'Fricco sailing for February, the next boat being the Moana, to sail on March 3.
MANUKA FROM SYDNEY. Advice received by the local ofGce of the Union Steam Ship Company, states that tho Manuka .left Sydney at 5 p.m. on Friday, and is due in Wellington about midday to-morrow. She is bringing about 1400 tons of general cargo, and a email quantity of fruit. Saloon passengers by tho Vessel total 115, and steerage 76. BUSY TIME AHEAD. The beginning of this week will see a busy time on the waterfront. Several Home liners will be here to- discharge and load, and the coastal shipping will also be active. This morning there should be six large oversea- steamers in port. HUDDART-PARKER. MOVEMENTS. The local office of Messrs. Huddart, Parker and Co. has been advised that the Victoria left Sydney for Auckland at 5 p.m. on Friday. She is due there to-morrow and at Wellington on February 5. Departure will be taken for Dunedin direct the same day. Arrangements have been made for the Westralia. to leave Auckland at 3 p.m. tomorrow for Sydney day late. Intending passengers from Wellington can connect? with tlie vessel by leaving here by this afternoon's Main Trunk express. Tho Wimmera on her next trip to New Zealand will sail from Melbourne on February 5 and Hobart on February 7. She is due here on February 11, and will sail for Melbourne, via southern ports, on February 12. Departure will be taken from the Bluff for Melbourne direct on February 17. The Kahika, due to-day from Greymouth, has a full load of coal and timher. On completion of discharge, sho. returns to Greymoutli to load for Wellington. R.M.S. Tainui, of the Sliaw-Savill fleet, is expected to arrive in port from Auckland early this morning with the local portion of her London cargo. It is hoped to get ber away for 'southern. ports on Thursday, February 3. At least one of the big shipping companies of Now Zealand has confidence in the future fortunes of Wanganui'as a harbour for overseas trade, and has purchased land at Oastlecliff for the erection of stores (remarks an exchange). We refer to the Shaw, Savill and' Albion Company, who have purchased two sections of land at Castlecliff, between the soap works and the wall of the floating basin. It is understood that a wool store is to be built upon the land. A projected departure from Wellington for London about Wednesday or Thursday next is the C. and D. liner Indrabarah. The coastal steamer Wootlon (Messrs. Bannatyno and Co., agents) will arrive at Miramar with timber from Nydia Bay tomorrow. It. is probable that she will return to the Bay for a similar cargo. Bound from London to Wellington, the Rotorua left Hobart on Friday, afternoon. The liner is due at Auckland. to-morro,w, and at Wellington towards the end of this week, or beginning of next. Tho C. and D. liner Port Augusta, which is at present discharging New York cargo at Port Chalmers, is due here from Lyttelton on February 5. Auckland will be visited before she visits Australia. At 9.20 p.m. on Friday tho New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Berwick Law left Auckland, in continuation of her journey from Montreal. She should show up here in time to commence discharge at the Taranaki Street Wharf first thing this morning. The CJnion Company's two new steamers, which are Bearing completion at Home, have been named Letrim aud Arra.li. Tliey are vessels of 10.CC0 and 12,000 tons respectively. Mr. W. L. Knight., third officer of the Westralia, has transferred to the Ulimaroa.
