THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

9 ' (To the Editor.) Sir, —Kindly allow me to correct soma inaccuracy in a letter signed "English Public School" printed in your issue of 27tli instant. Its writer says: "This school" (Christ's College) "more closely resembles ail English public school than any other school in the Dominion, and has certain advantages which no other colonial school has, viz., the large number 6i English University men on its staff. The advantage of this may bo seen in tlio fact that Christ's College is the only school in tlio Dominion where a boy may be prepared for Englisli Government examinations. This may be seen bj[ the many old Christ's Collego boys in the English Government services, including tho_ highest posta in tlio Indian Civil Service." It is clear that the gentleman lias either forgotten or has never heard about the Wanganui Collegiate School, much the larger boarding school of the two, which also is modelled on the English public school; which has a much larger number of English public school and university men on its staff; and which successfully prepares many for the English Universities and for English Government examinations. Theso two schools, though not without their generous rivalries, are not competitors, but serve a similar need, the ono in the south, the other in the north. An interesting feature of "English Public School's" letter is the fact that the two members of Christ's College staff he singles out for praise aro New Zealand University men.—l am, etc., B. FAIR. Wanganui, January 26.
