CITY COUNCIL'S STAFF PICNIC

The annual pi 0 1 "0 of the staff of the Wellington City Council was lield at Day's Bay in perfect weather yesterday. Nearly every member of the staff was present, and all enjoyed themselves to the full. Whilst the weather was all that could 'he desired in town, the temperature at the 'hay must have heen ten degrees warmer, an indication that found a reflex in the sunburnt faces of the merry picnicker!). The shallow, limpid waters of the hay proved irresistible to most of the adults as well as the children, hut there were others with sufficient energy left to take part in a modified sports programme. It was a lovely day for the children, wliose hearts wero made glad by a perfectly impartial distribution of prizes. In the afternoon the Mayor and Mrs. Luke, the Hon. J. A. Hanan (Minister of Education), Councillors Frost, Fitzgerald, Wright, Bush, Veitcli, and the City Engineer (Mr. W. H! Morton) arrived on tlio scone,' and a joyous re-union took place round the afternoon tea-table in the pavilion. In thanking the Picnic Committeo for its hospitality, the Mayor referred briefly at the permanent benefit that had been conferred upon the people for all timo by tho acquisition by the City Council of tlio beautiful AVilly.nis Park Estate, and said that it be the care of the City to see that tfic health of those people who liad taken up tbeir residence in the bay was attended to in the future .by still 'further improvements.

Tho Hon. J. A. Hanan also thanked the stall: for tho kind invitation to be present, and referred to the fine acquisition such a resort as Day's Bay must be to the City of Wellingto'Si
