THE SENATE AND UNIVERSITY REFORM.
Sir, —Wo liave heard a good deal for a few years about "Sir Robert Stout and the Professors." But it appears that the .'older and more experienced of the professors are, almost' to a man, on Sir Robert's side. Examine the division list on the great and chief issue—a purely internal examination for degrees—the professors "branding their own herring"—and what do you imd? Of the seven wise men, of the Reform faith, who voted for branding our own New Zealand herring, five hail from Victoria College! Of the five professors who voted in favour of homebranding, three have had no university experience (except a week or two's car-pet-baggiug abroad) outside of New Zealand! - i Good, Sir Robert! I sometimes find it difficult to isee eye to eyo with you (as do many others, I understand), but in this matter you have scored a crowning victory. I am confident that 90 per cent, of the people of this Dominion are on your side. Let ns no longer bear of "Sir Robert Stout and the professors" —let it bo "Sir Robert Stout and the pigmies"! As for "Viva Voce" ho will soon get back to his normal ratto voce.—l am, etc., , VOX POPULI.
