THE COMMON FLY
WAR ON THE PEST. The science of war on tliat universal evil, the common fly, has been advanced a good deal in recent years, and at present the Wheelband method is receiving. consideration. Tests 'of the Wheelband fly exterminator aro being made in Wellington, and the results of the first of these may be seen at the City Corporation's yards. A heap of stable manure was put aside in preparation for the test, and' on Thursday afternoon the surfaco of it was sprayed with tho exterminator. It was stated at the time that the mixture not only killed the flies and grubs which are on the surfaco, "but attracts others up to the surface and kills them too. This proved to be the case, for yesterday there was a layer of fly gruba over the surface and just beneath tho surface of the heap, and most of them were dead. The great argument put forward in favour of this method of exterminating flies is that the breeding ground io attacked. Further demonstrations an to be given.
