A. NEW ZEALAND ENGINEER'S PRIVATE OPINION OP TEE STUDEBAKEK. TiTe tourist Motor Co., Hastings, knowing that we are' closely interested in Studebaker motors, liave forwarded to ua ■ a. copy o£ a jfenrfhy business letter sent them by Mr. Aflaii H. M'Lean, tho engineer of their firm, who is at present in , Detroit, investigating the claims of the . 1916 models of the great American automobile manufacturers. The Tourist Motor Co. have very courteously given ua permission to publish extracts from tho letter, and we oxtract the following para- ' graph as likely to interest owners ana prospective owners of Studebaker cars:— "My Ihonest opinion about the Studebaker car is that it is the best value for money on tho American market, and os far as hnibli and workmanship are concerned it is second to ■ noue. I consider tnat we would be foolish to take up the_ agency for any higher priced car that is built here, because if wo repaint the Studebalcer and equip it with wire wheels it would be'equal to fhe Minerva in appearnnco and quietness of running. The engine is the cleanest designed one that I have inspected." It may be explained that Mr. M'Lean'6 mission to America was to secure the agency of a high-priccd American car to take the place of. the Krm's Silent Knight Minerva agency. There is a good market in Hawke's Bay for tho very best car obtainable, regardless of price. Mr. M'Lean's hone6t opinion regarding the Studebaker is that there .. is no American car 011 the market better than tho Studebaker at any price. The' five-seatcr touring Studebaker (4-cylinder,' • 25 li.n.), with electric self-stsrter and eleotric lights, sells in New Zealand for .£3U, the taree-seater Studebaker, with same-; equipment, being priced at.,£335.
