INSTITUTE FOR SOLDIERS
OPENED BY SALVATION .ARMY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Rotorua, January 26. The Salvation Army Institute for Returned Soldiers was opened this afternoon by Sir Joseph Ward. There was a. large gathering present. Addresses were delivered by Sir Joseph Ward, Colonel Powley, the Army's chief secretary, Mr. Hill, the resident officer. Colonel Newall, Drs. Herbert and Thacker, and Captain Shearer, who is in charge of the institute. Colonel Powley stated that 'the land and buildings cost £396, improvements £150, and fittings £70. An appeal for financial support resulted in £50 being contributed by the audience. The speeches wore general in character, and complimentary to the Salvation Army's wk in the war. The building, wliicli was formerly a shop, contains sitting and recreation rooms, tea room, kitchen, and a cool drink bullet comfortably furnished.
