The report from the Women's Branch of the Labour Bureau in Wellington eliows that during. the month 70 aayivorkers were required, and 48 applied; domestic workers, '50 wanted, 10 applied; lady-helps, 3 wanted, no applications; housemaids, 14 wanted, 2 applied ; cooks, 9 wanted, 2 applied. There is also a shortage of kitclienmaids, married couples, ana housekeepers. Or fruit and hop-pickers, 34 applied, and 8 were placed. In Nelson 65 applications came from employers, and 18 from workers. There is no difficulty in getting pickers locally, but domestics are almost Tinobtainable. From 40 to 50 women and girls could be placed in jam and confectionery factories. In Auckland, 245 applications came from employers, and 69 from workers. It is anticipated that more domestic and day workers will be available after the holidays are over. Christchurch and Dunedin show a shortnge of workers, but not in the same do. gree'as the towns in the North Island. Mrs. Barrett and her daughter, Miss Lydia Barrett, are spending some days la Christchurcli.
