HARBOUR BOARD EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION

The quarterly meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board Permanent Employees' Association was held in the Foresters' Hall on Friday last. Various proposals regarding increase of wages to meet existing conditions were adopted for submission to the board at its February meeting. The following resolution, dealing with the classification of the staff, was adopted: "That the board be petitioned to institute an inquiry into the existing system of promotion, the present allocation of the duties, and the general administration of tlie staff in the wharfingers' department; further, that the board be asked to instruct the executive officers to prepare and provide a classification' scheme in. connection with their departments, in order that tlie various members of tlie staff may be informed as to their position in regard to promotion." ■ _ The non-filling of vacancies in the outside clerical staff, caused by death and retirement, was discussed, and is to be brought before the notice of the board.
