The Rumanian correspondent of the Paris "Matin" interviewed a prominent member of the Cabinet, who said:—"Negotiations have been, completed which will have an excellent effect on the country. The Government's decision conforms with the national sentiment, which, summed up, is no war, or war on the side of the Allies. AVe first require a favourable economic (vndl strategic position, which will secure us'against disaster. We 950,000 men, 600,000 of whom are' 1 armed, but Rumania's help will only produce the full effect if thrown into the scales at the right moment." Britain lias purchased l ten million sterling worth of Rumanian wheat, [Assuming the price of the wheat to be in the neighbourhood of ss. per bushel, the quantity purchased would be about 40,000,000 bushels. Rumania's wheat production in 1914 was 44,100,000 hushels, and in 1913 it was 80j603,503 bushels. Assuming the 1915 output to be equal to that of 1913, Britain has bought half the, production. Delivery, however, cannot be givoji just now, and therein lies the significance of the deal .1
