IMPORTANT INTERCOLONIAL CHANGES. Consequent upon the withdrawal of the Ulimaroa from the intercolonial -trade service important ohanges have been made in that service.
The Victoria, which left for Sydney last evening,- will take up the running- between that port, Auckland, and Dunedin in place of the Riverina. She has been fixed to sail on January 27, and will arrive at Auckland on January 31. Departure will be taken from the northern port for Dunedin, via East Coast, on Tuesdays, and in future arrival at Dunedin will be made on Sundays. She will leave there on the following Tuesday for Sydney, via .northern ports and Auckland, '
The Westralia, which arrived here after a fine weather trip from Hobart, via Melbourne, yesterday, will proceed on to Lyttelton on Monday, and will withdraw from the Melbourne-Hobart-New Zealand service on arrival there. She will take up the Dunedin-Eafit C'oaetrAuckland-Sydney running in conjunction with the Victoria, and will leave Auckland for Sydney on February 1. The above two steamers will maintain the intercolonial running between Auckland and Sydney till further notice.
The Riverina, -which is dne at Sydney from Auckland to-morrow, will withdrawfrom that service, and will relieve the. Ulimaroa in the HobartrSydney-Wellington running next trip. She will leave Sydney for Wellington direct, on February s, being duo here on Tuesday, February 7, and she will remain in that service temporarily.
With the withdrawal of the Victoria from tho- East Coast service it will jnean that the East Coast service will havo to be run with one- boat less, but it is understood that negotiation aro pending to have her replaced.
RUAHINE AND PAPAKOA. i Both the Euahine and Papaioa are loading on the New Zealand coast for Home. The former will arrive at Wellington on Wednesday • night or Thursday morning, and the Paparoa about Friday, January '28. Both vessels are expected to clear for London about February 1. THE POET AGUSTA. The 0. and D. liner Port Agusta is expected to leave Melbourne to-day in continuation of her journey to Dunedin and other New Zealand ports. Sho has 700 tons of cargo to land here, and is due about February 5. After visiting Auckland the Port Agusta will load wheat in Australia for Europe. THE SYDNEY STEAMER. The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the Moeraki cleared Sydney for Wellington at 3 p.m. on Thursday Slis has 160 saloon and 110 steerage passengers on board, as well as 1290 tons of cargo for this port, and is due on Monday morning. Proceeding to Ls*ttclton on Tuesday the Moeraki will return here on Thursday, but will not leave for Sydney till 5 p.m. ou January 28—one day late. Her departure has been postponed on account of the late arrival of E.M.S. Ifoitai from. San Francisco. MAITAI EXPECTED FRIDAY. Although no definite advice has teen received, on inquiry at the local office of the Union Company it was ascertained that R.M.S. Maitai was expected to make port on Friday next for San Francisco,- via Papeete and Karotonga. The vessel hoe 1000 tons of San Francisco carGO. as well as a fairly large consignment of Island fruits on fcoard for Wellington. The Maitai will be withdrawn from the San Francisco trade for one trip to undergo a thorough overhaul. Consequently there will be no sailing from Wellington on February 8. AOREEE PUTS BACK. When . the . small coastal steamer Aorcre was about abreast of Kapiti Island yesterday, on her way to Patea, one of the highpressure engine eccentric straps snapped. Temporary repairs were effected, and the little vessel put abek to Wellington. She is expected to get away again to-day. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. 0. Hales West, second engineer of the> Tarawera, has gone south for orders. Mr. W. White, late of the Hakanoa, has filled the vacancy on the Tarawera. Mr. G. Maxwell, chief engineer of the Begulus, having come ashore, Mr. H. E. Elson lias joined her as chief. Mr. H. C. White has joined the Kamona as second officer; Messrs! J.' Dalziel, J. E. Dugdale, and D. M'Bean have signed on as chief, second,. and third' engineers respectively. Mr. Johansen, mate of the: Mana, has come ashore. Mr. Donald Campbell, recently of the Grand Hotel staff, Dunedin, has been appointed chief steward of the Government training steamer Amokura. Mr. A. J. Duff has joined the Tarawera as purser in place of Mr. P. Eichardson.
Early next week the New Plymouth Harbour Board's dredge Paritutu will arrive at Wellington fo'r her apnual overhaul and inspection. ' , . ~ , . . The schooner Enterprise, which is having a more powerful oil engine installed, leaves Dunedin shortly to bring up the General Grant's gold from the Auckland Islands. ■
En route from Greymouth to Gisborne, the ICarno will put in here to-morrow for the purpose of picking up a lino of cargo. She will sail again on Monday. The Corinna, which arrived from the eouth last evening, went on to Kelson and New Plymouth a few liours later. She is due back from the latter port on January 26 with a full load of dairy producc for transhipment to the Ruahine for London. As overhaul to .the Komata will not be completed till next week the vessel's departure for Weslport has been toWc/onedl till Wednesday next. It was originally intended to disuatch the Karamu for Westport last eveniug. Arrangements have now been made, however, to send the vessel to Dunedin, Timaru, Lyttclton, Westport, and Greymouth to-day. With a full load of coal and timber t'ho Kahika is duo in port from Greymouth to-morrow. Somewhat earlier than expected the C. and D. liner Nerchana will arrive from Napier to-morrow to fill up for London. Departure will be taken on the Homeward journey on Tuesday next.
