THE HIGH COMMISSIONER
REPLY TO A FARMERS' RJSSOLU- :' t-TION. At the last annual Dominion Conferenco of the Farmers' Union was passed a resolution cordially approving, of fclie .decision of the Government in extending the term of Sir Thomas Mackenzie as High Commissioner for New Zealand. Sir Thomas Mackenzie has replied to the Dominion secretary (Mr. E. C. Jack), as follows:— ! "Dear Sir,—l cannot sufficiently _ express to your union the great appreciation I feel for the resolution it eo generously carried in reference to my reappointment. When one knows the backing extended by the great producers of our Dominions, it stimulates to the. utmost effort. , • "I thank your union most heartily for their confidence and support, and I can assure the New Zealand farmers that no effort will be wanting on my part to justify their good opinion, and also to promote their interests in European markets. In doing this it is obvious that if success follows to our agricultural and pastoral interests, all other interests in New Zealand will share in that prosperity. "The union may be, interested to know that not one hitch has occurred in connection with the clause inserted iu sale of meat to the effect that no claims would be entertained for 'not up to quality' grading—in other words, ail j the surplus meat now sold here is sold on' New Zealand grade certificate. Eight months' experience shows the proviso formerly in force was unnecessary."
