SHIPS FOR WOOL
THE GOVERNMENT ACTIVE. The lack of sufficient ships to carry our -wool and. other general cargo Home is receiving tho attention of the Prime Minister. . Mr. Massey had a conference with the representatives of the shipping companies yesterday, and discussed the position with them, and the conference is to meet again next week. "Every possible effort is being made to meet the difficulty that has arisen," said Mr. Massey, after the conference. "It is not , anticipated that thero will ho any serious trouble about frozen cargp. Tho difficulty is to deal with the enormous amount of wool that has accumulated at tho different ports during tho last few weeks. Tho trouble is due to two principal causes, the fact that tho, number of .ships with much space for general cargo is considerably less than last year, and tho fact that tho season has been a late one, delaying tho shearing, and the bringing in of the wool." Mr. Masscy hinted that ho was_ not without hope that three additional steamers might be secured for New Zealand loading.
