For the purpose of allowing the new boys to gain their "sea legs," the Government training ship Amokura left port for a cruise in Cook Strait and Pelorus Sound yesterday. She is due back on Monday, and will subsequently sail for tho- Kermcdec Islands in seacrh of castaways. The New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Arrino arrived at Brisbane on January 16, and after completing discharge loads in New Zealand for London. , _ .' Shaw, Savill, and Company s steamer Waiwera arrived at Adelaide from St. John, Canada, on January IS. She has come down under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, and is due at Wellington about February 10. The Dutch 6teamer Riouw, which arrived at Auckland from New York after a lengthy voyage, bore unmistakable indications that she is a neutTal vessel (states the "IteraW'i. The word Riouw i 6 painted in huge letters on the vessel's sides, and a larite red, white, and blue square on her bows also warns enemy vessels that she is a non-cumbatant. The vessel i 6 making her first visit to tho port, and was only built in 1914. She is of 7626 tons register, and Is 450 ft. long. The Riouw is replete with all the latest labour-saving services, and is fitted with the most up-to-date arrangements for handling cargo quickly. In every respect she is regarded as a thoroughly modern vessel. For some months past the Union Company's steamer Corinna has been regularly visiting New Plymouth to take in dairy produce tor transhipment to Home liners at Wellington. Several valuable cargoes, totalling in value some hundreds of thousand of pounds sterling, have been brought by the Corinna, the approximate value of the last consignment being £80,000. The Corinna is duo at Wellington from Dunedin to-morrow, and -will sail on Saturday next for Nelson and New Plymouth. At the Taranakl port ehe will take in 12,500 boxes of butter and 600 crates of cheese for transhipment to the Rualiinc. The butter Is valued at approximately £48,000, and the cheese at £56,000, tho total value of tho shipment being over £80,000. The Corinna is duo back in Wellington next Wednesday. From Port Chalmers the chartered steamor Ashburton will proceed to Timaru, Gisborno, Napier, and Wellington to complete loading for London. Continuing her journey from Greymouth the Arahura left Westport at 8 a.m. yesterday for Nelson.
