EQUAL SACRIFICE ON THE PART OF ALL. By Telcgr&ph—Preaa Association. Dunedin, January 20. ' A meeting of the Otago Trades and. Labour Council to-night carriod the following resolutions: — "That the unions he strongly recommended not to givo any support to the resolution that the Unity Platform is submitting, unless the following words be deleted, 'and undertake absolutely to support the National Government in any steps it decides towards victory.' " "That this council affirms its unqualified faith in the righteousness of Britain's attitude and entry into the present war, and resolves: "(1) That the voluntary system of. enlistment is more in harmony with British history and British instincts than any form of conscription. ! "(2) 'l'hat in order to obviate the evils associated with conscription more adequate remuneration and fuller recompense should bo given to our volunteer soldiers and their dependents. "(3) That if any form of conscription .is to bo tolerated it must be in practice and essence national service. "(4) That such national service should be translated by legislation into equal sacrifice on the part of all citizens.
