First Glance, who is at the top of the lis?, has earned her weight, and so has Balboa. l'ho last-named was freely discussed in sporting, circles yesterday v and is certain of strong support to-day. Indigo will ruii a good race, but the writer expects him to be beaten. Kinaldo is an unlucky horse, and Itewi l J oto and Sir Solo may find the class, too strong. Welcome ljugget has his Otaio plate and Manawatu Cup form to 'recommend him. Blackall moved very attractively yesterday, and cannot bo left out of the calculations. Tangihou will not work' on the tracks, aud may want a race, while Bee will find the distance beyond her. Taringamutu has done her track work iu a most pleasing manner, but a fast-run race may find her wanting over the final pinch. Could Snub bo got to reproduce liis track form- the race would be safe in his keepiug, but, so far, he has never run up to his track work. He will bo much sought after to-day, and the support will be justified. In. Auckland ho was unlucky in tho Cup,-as Self carried him out at the turn, and he then finished within half a length of tho two other plaee-getters. If Eligible, B'st. 81b., had a chance, and the handicapper should bo the best judge of this, Snub looks tho goods, as he ran the Boniform gelding to a neck at level weights in the Derby at. Ellerslie, and most people will agree that a horse that runs 2inin. 23sec., with Bst. 71b. on his back, must have a great chance ill a handicap with 171b. less to carry. The remaining quartet do not call for special mention.

TELEGRAPH HANDICAP. The Telegraph- Handicap is the most important 6print event. The English horse" Panraui'o will be much fancied, and in W. Bell's hands he can be relied upon to run a good race. Yesterday lis covered five furlongs in lmin. lsec., with the assistance of a couple of two-year-olds over different parts of the journey. Others that will be well supported are Cliakwana and Hyginas. WATERLOO STAKES. ' There will bo six starters, in the Waterlou Stakes, one mile, weight-for-age. E. J. Mason holds a strong hand with Nones (Deeley) and Emperador (Hatch). Tho former lias not had a race since November. but up to that stage she was second only to Desert Gold. At a mile Chortle (S. E-eid) may account for Etflperador, taking a' line through the form of the paiT in the autumn of last year. ■\Vishful (Emerson),* Exp<x:t (Oliver), and Plying Start (Jones) are' the other oontestqpts. ■ THE. OTHER EVENTS. The Hack Welter Handicap, which is the opening: event may trouble backers to find a favourite, but when the machine closes Marsjnah (P. Brady) and Hinemanu (A. Oliver) may be the best fanoud. '

In the Nursery Handicap Hyttus may bo withdrawn and reserved for the Wellington Stakes, run on tho Becond day. The issue appears to be very open, One of the light-weights, like Elation'(Deokiy). or Sabona may reach the post first. Shaki will represent the Karauiu stable in the Trial Plate. Strong opposition may bo expected from Seadown and Dribble. Martuk may be reserved for the Euapeha Handicap and Margerine did not make the trip North. Up till a late hour yesterday no i rider had been secured for Red RfliWn, who, in the ordinary course, would have been ono of tho best liked.'

The top-weight in the Open Welter Handicap is Bertrada, 9st. 31b. (A. Oliver). The Highden mare seems to bo coming back to form. Houlu (Emerson), liadogeur (Griffiths), Botanist (Deeley). and Combustion (Bell) should all run well, especialy the last-named, who has only got 61b. above the minimum.

Martuk (Martian—Ukraine) is the bestperformed of those engaged in tho Ituapehu Handicap.
