APPOINTMENT OF LECTURERS. A meeting of the Victoria College Council was held last night, when there were present: Mr. C. Watson (chairman), the ltev. AV. A. Evans, the Hon. J. G. AV. Aitken, Dr. G. E. Anson, Professor Rankine Brown, and Messrs. R. A. AVright, . M.P., IV R. Fleming, W. Ferguson, A. R. Atkinson, AV. S. La Trobe, R. M'Galium, M.P. The Finance and Business Committee reported that the following appointments had been made: —Mrs. Macl'hail to be temporary lecturer in French; Miss Mary Baker, M.A V Melbourne, to b'o temporary lecturer m German and assistant in French; Mr. P. W. Burbidge, M.Sc., N.Z.,.t0 take temporary charge, at a salary of £300 per annum, of the physics department during Professor Marsden's absence 'on military service, the work of the department to be under the general supervision of Professor Easterfield, and Miss Natalie Allen, B.Sc., N.Z., to act temporarily as \assistant and demonstrator at a salary of £100-per annum. The report was adopted. The same committee reported that She sum of £1500 had been received from the Rhodes Trustees, and bad been invested in the Bank of New Zealand on fixed deposit for one year .at 3J per cent. Accounts for the month amounting to £857 14s. la. were passed • for payment.
