CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY NEWTOWN WIN RINKS FINAL By Tcloira.Dh.—Press JißSociation. Christchurch, January 15. The final of the Kinks Championship was played to-day, and attracted a large crowd of spectators. The rinks were:— .Newtown (.(J. Davis, A. Davies, A, Huff, J. (Laughton (s.)), 19; Christchurch (J. H. Scager, J. Caughley, W. S. Atkinson, and' 14. Torrance (s.), lb. The games went as under: First head, Newtown 0, Christchurch 5; second, I—s; third, 1—(i; fourth, I—9; fifth, 1—10; sixth, 2—10; seventh, bowls moved; eighth, 1—10; ninth, 5—10; tenth, G—10; eleventh, 6—11; twelfth, S—11; thirteenth, 9—11; fourteenth, 11 all; fifteenth, 11 —14; sixteenth, 11—16 seventeenth, 11—17; eighteenth, 15—17; nineteenth, 17 all. At tho twentieth head, with two heads to go and an even game, intorest was intensified. Davies came to light and left two for Newtown. Cangliley .made a good attempt, which just passed the scoring bowl by a. fraction, and with his second he drew a yard In fiont. Atkiuson's shot just missed its object, Duif drawing forth, loud applause by drawing the shot itself. With three shots against them, Christchurch were on their mottle. Torrance drew a l>eautiful second shot, which, just failed to score by a fraction, but with his second, amidst great excitement, he rolled in a lovely scoring shot, «nd he was cheered for his fine effort —18—17—in favour of Christchurch. In the final head, Seager kept up his reputation by finishing a few inches behind the kitty. Caughley was Bhort, but his bowl acted as a baulk. Ho also failed with his second. Davies, with his second, got the kitty, which shot to the left. Atkinson drew a nice shot, which Duff promoted slightly, and the question, was raised if it was within bounds. The line was run over and the bowl was adjudged out. Torrance's first was out of-bounds, and with his second he' proved just too strong, and Sewtown was left with two points and won the game, 19 to 18, Laughton not playing his seoond bowl. At tho conclusion of the game the president of the council (Sir. Si. F. Barnett) presented Mr. Laughton, skip of the winning rink, with the bowling banner, a handsome piece of work' givon by the ladies of Dunodin on the occasion of the tournament held at Duneilin m 19td.
