WELL-KNOWN CONTRACTOR KILLED
STRUCK BY FALLING BAR.
A sad accidcnt occurred'at tile new Club Hotol building on Lambton Quay on Saturday, resulting in the death of Mr. Honry Gray, of the firm of M'Lean and Gray, contractors for the hotel. About midday_ Mr. Gray .was on the ground floor in conversation with another builder (Mr. Hurrell), when an iron bar fell from a girder on the top floor (fourth), and struck him on the head. It was at once seen that Mr. Gray had received very serious injuries, his skull being fractured. Dr. Cahill, who was summoned, ordered the removal of tho patieait to the Brougham Street Private Hospital, and there with the assistance or Drs. Tolhurst and M'Evedy, an operation, which "was deemed necessary, was performed. Mr. Gray's condition, however, remained critical, and ho died at 5 p.m. Deceased, who was a married man, resided at Garden Road, Northland. He leaves a widow and three children, the oldest of whom is eight years of age. Thes late Mr. Gray also has a sister in Wellington, while his father is still alive in the Orkney Islands. He was a orominent member of the Masonic fraternity. The funeral will take place from Garden Road, Northland, at 9.30 a.m. to-morrow.
