GUNS OPEN ON SALONIKA LINES
VIGOROUS REPLY BY THE ALLIES FALL OF CETTINJE RESORTED AUSTRO-MONTENEGRIN PEACE PROPOSALS AUSTRIAN CRUISER SUNK THE KAISER'S ILLNESS / '• • CRITICAL DEVELOPMENTS As seemecl to be expected, tie Montenegrin capital has, been captured by the Austrians, who are now said to be offering inducements to the Montenegrins to conclude a separate peace. The attack on the Allies' position 1 on the Salonika lines is reported to hare begun with ail artillery bombardment from the Bulgarian sector of the enemy's line, the Allies' guns vigorously replying. There is very little news of any consequence from the Russian or Western front. The detailed story of the sinking of the .Clan Macfarlane adds yet another item to the long catalogue of ocean crimes the German Government has to answer to civilisation for. An item on the other side of the account' is the sinking of an Austrian scout cruiser by a French submarine. There is no news of the British dash to Kut-el-Amara for the relief of General Townshend's force. The illness of the Kaiser is beginning to bulk large in the cabled ■ news. The-latest .reports (unofficial, of course) disclose a enrrent of events which harmonises with the reports that the Kaiser's illness has taken a serious turn.
