MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

The Makara County Council met at the council's office in Ballance Street yesterday. _ Mr. 0. Monaglian (chairman) presided, and the other councillors present were: Messrs. J. H. Haggerty, A. J. Taylor, J. Pyle, S. Bryant, and 6. Monk.

On the motion of Councillor Monaglian, seconded by Councillor Pyle, it was agreed to grant the application of Mr. E. Walls, to remove Ins fence to the outer edge of the road formation, the work to be carried out under the supervision of Councillor Pyle, and the fence to remain in its new position at tho council's pleasure. A verbal application of a similar character by Mrs. King was left in the hands of Councillor Pyle. It was reported by the ranger that a boat shed on the beach at Titalii Bay had been converted into a whare without permission having been first sought from the council. It was stated that the whare was within the confines of the council's reserve, and that it was a hundred feet distant from the high water mark. The absence of any sanitary arrangements, it was pointed out, gave a eomewhat serious complexion to, the matter. One councillor observed that if people were allowed to occupy dwellings on tho beach in this fashion it would be hopeless to try and dispose of their land sections. Tho building inspector was instructed to take proceedings against the persons responsible for this breach of the by-laws, and to request any one occupying the whoro to vacate it at once. It was agreed that application be again, made to the Public Works Department for a grant for Titahi Beach The registration fee for dogs was fixed at 2s. Gd. per head. Tho council adopted a motion of condolence with tho secretary (Mr. W. L. Beech) on the death of his father. The police wero instructed to _ prosecute persons found removing spoil from tho Ohiro Bay Road Reserve. A ■ proposal came before the council for tho construction of a concrete track, twenty feet wide, on tho new Hutt Road, for the exclusive uso of motor traffic. The opinion was expressed that sucli a scheme was premature, and tho council's representative on the Hutt Road Board of Control was instructed to opposo it. Accounts amounting to £'115 14s. 7d. wero passed for payment.. . ,
