SINGLE MEN WITH DEPENDANTS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln view of the fact that a big percentage of employers of labour iare refusing the services of young single men of military ago without dependants, is it not time tho Government provided all young men with dependants'with a badgo of some description to indicate their position, awl thus do away with the unpleasantness and humiliation of having to explain it to evory employer with whom tlioy may havo to do. With the chance, too, of having their word discredited, unless supported by something (uniortiuiately) more substantial. It is especially necessary in the case of poor single men, who stand alone, with perhaps a delicate mother or sister or other relatives dependant on thorn. It is almost incredible that employers should havo adopted this attitudo, but seeing that tliey have done so, it is high time tho Government realised the hardship that is being meted out to this class of young men, and act accordingly and promptly. The married man with. a wife only (who is known to be married) has protection from unemployment, even now; but the single man who is tlio solo support of relatives has no protection whatever. Thanking you for insertion, —I am, etc., ONE OF THEM.
