TURCO-GERMAN PLANS ON EGYPT

ME. BELLOC REVIEWS THE PREPARATIONS. (Rec. January 14, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 13. Writing in "Land and Water," Mr. Hilaire Belloc declares that the German menace on Egypt and Suez is aimed entirely at Britain. It is intended to out off the Canal route to the East, compelling a considerable proportion of the Empire's seaborne traffic to take the Capo route, possibly using half a million troops. Ample troops are available in the Turkish Empire. Most of the units are already in existence, but could not be equipped before the summer, as they are entirely dependent oil Austro-German munitions which are transported by rail and the river Danube and through Bulgaria to the Bosphorus. They will use mainly the Bagdad railway, but a new line lias been constructed from tlie Holy Land to Beershcba, a distance of 175 miles from the Canal, Bcersheba serving as a base for the force attacking Egypt. Large stores of munitions have already been accumulated. Prom Beersheba to the frontier at El Aujeli a line has been surveyed and a road-bed made.
