There were present at last evening's meeting of the Hutt River Board, Mr. H. Baldwin (chairman) and Messrs. Bowers, Kennedy, and Welch. Mr. Baldwin waa re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. The Survey Department forwarded plans for a stop-bank at Moiling Settlement, and it was decided that 110 action should be taken in the matter at the present time. The overseer (Mr. F. Kershaw) repored that two extensions in the lower cut were completed at a cost of £11 13s. 6d. each; estimate, £17 Bs. each. All old piles had been removed from ICingdon's loop-line at a cost of £20 Bs., of which amount the Railway Department pays £10. Tho estimated cost of erecting two groynes for the purpose of protecting the road below the railway bridge on the eastern side of the river, was £140. Tho river bad been low 1 all the' month, and the willow work generally was making good growth. No agreement had been arrived at between King Bros, and Pitcaithley's in regard to No. 1 beach. Tho beach requires working speedily, as the accumulation of shingle is forcing the river further to the east each fresh. On the casting vote of the chairman it was decided to inform the Hutt County Council that in tho event of their agreeing to pay £60_ tlie board would proceed with the erection of the two road-pro-, tective groynes mentioned in the report. Mr. M. Welch expressed tho opinion that tiie council should be asked to defray half the cost, which might bo more or les6 than £60. In respect to the working of No. 1 beach, it was agreed to refer the matter to the board's solicitor (Mr. E. P. Bunny). It was decided to write asking the Lower Hutt Borough Council t*fe rental of a certain building, if leased to the board for seven years. '
