(llec. January 12, 10.25 p.m.) Sydney, January 12. Major-General M'Cay rcconimends that recruits be given 40J- hours' camp training weekly instead of the present 31 hours. THE BROKEN' EMDEN. SHATTERED BEYOND HOPE OP SALVING. Melbourne, January 12. The Hon. J. A. Jensen, jr. Charge of the Navy, referring to the calving of the German cruiser Emden, states that Mr. Proctor was sent to the Cocos Islands to report on tho possibility of the scheme. He found that the stern half of the Emden had disappeared, and a heavy surf was breaking over the remainder. It was now impossible to salve the vessel. EXPLORING NEW GUINEA. OVER THE WILDS BY AEROPLANE. Sydney, January 12. Particulars of the plans of Dr. Eric Majoberg, a Danish, scientist, for the exploration of New Guinea, show that lie will utilise two aeroplanes, one a light scouting machine for investigations, the otner a heavy Farman machine capable of carrying fiv6 passengers. The Japan "Times" states that Australian buyers have purchased 10,000 tons of sugar for January and February delivery.

Owing to the dependence of the whito population oil Australian supplies, NewSouth AVales and Queensland have decided jointly to supply Singapore with 120 tons of meat 1 per month.
