THE RIFLE BRIGADE
COLONEL CHAYTOR TO COMMAND,
The Defence Minister stated yesterday tliat Colonel Chaytor had been appointed to command the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, of which two battalions are on active service, and two battalions are just completing their training. Colonel Chaytor sailed with the Main Body as chief of- General Godley's staff. Early in the fighting on Gailipoli he was seriously wounded, and lie was for a considerable' time absent from the front, recovering from his wound. Colonel Chaytor served in the South African "War, and since then has been continuously on the Now Zealand General Staff. Before he sailed with the Expeditionary Force he was Officer Commanding tic Wellington Military District. The Defence Minister said he was unable to say whether the Rifle Brigade would be detached from the rest of the New Zealand command, l>ut he presumed that it would not. He thought it would probably be Tinder the same Army Corps ' commander, and in the same division,,as the other main body of New Zealanders. Colonel Chaytor's brigade-major will be Major Gardiner, also of the New Zealand Staff Corps.
