THE STRICKEN KAISER
SPECIALIST'S OPINION OF THROAT TROUBLE I ALL EYES ON THE CROWN | PRINCE By Tolegraph—Press Association—Copyright New York, January 10. A Baltimore message states that Dr. West, an American specialist in the radium cure, and the head of the great Berlin cancer clinic, writing to friends, said that two years ago the Kaiser's physicians deemed that an operation was necessary, but it was not performed. : One doctor, who was called in a consultative capacity, expressed the belief that the trouble was an ulcer, which had been burned out. This was not entirely the case, and it was only a matter of time when, the troublo would reappear. As a final recourse it might be necessary to remove the larynx and insert .two tubes to admit tho 1 breath and food. In some cases it might be practicable to cut half the larynx away, but there was an overpresent dangor of blood-poisoning and of pneumonia through the air reaching the lungs cold. If the laryns were only partially cut away there would bo a possibility of saving tho vocal chords and preserving the power of spcech. The doctor is. of opinion that tho Kaiser is so badly afflicted, and the growth has spread in such a way that it may be necessary to remove tho j whole of the larynx. ANXIETY THE STATES RULERS. New York, January 10. A Paris cable message says that "The Temps" learns from Madrid that the rulers of tho Gorman States are being called to Berlin owing to a fear that the Crown Prince is about to assume governing power. The rumours that tho Kaiser is critically ill have been accepted by the German Embassy as true. A NEW YEAR MESCACE. CROWN PRINCE TO THE TROOPS. ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.)
