KARORI BOROUGH AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. .The first meeting of the Karori Borough Council, held this year, took place last evening, tho Mayor (Mr, B. G. H. Burn) 'presiding. The following were ulso present: Councillors J. G. Raine, T. Lever, R. Faire, L. P. Davies, A. Hamilton, W. C. Cooper, and R. T. Poll. A letter was received from the Town Clerk, Greymouth, quoting a resolution passed by the Greymouth Borough Council, urging the Karori Council's co-operation in petitioning the Government to alter the Act so that the names and addresses of the 34,000 men who 3tated in t'he war census papers that they were not prepared to serve in any military or civil capacity if called upon may be made public. The Mayor said that'he was of the opihion that the Karori Borough Council could not take any action in the matter, and a resolution was passed that the letter., be .received. ; A ratepayer complained that several motormen had failed to stop their cars at. Johnston Street in addition to the stop at the loop. On the motion of the Mayor, it was deoided to draw the attention of the tramway authorities to the matter. . • : The engineer, in his report, stated that sixteen building permits had been issued this year, to the total value of £701 S. The fees collected amounted to £31 12s. 6d, It was reported by the Public Works and Recreation Committee that certain damage had been done _ by boys attending a recent school picnic at Karori Park. «Jho committee . recommended thnt a letter he sent to the Secretary of the Education Board, setting forth the damage, and asking for the payment of £1 to cover the cost. Accounts amounting to £1739 12s. Id. were' passed for payment.
