HIS REASON. Tho reasons which prompt men to enlist aro not' always those which they speak of when yarning to their fellow soldiers about the war, and what led them into it. As a "Punch" joke has it, speaking through the mouth of a recruiting sergeant, "This 'ere's the British Army and there's no bloomin' patriotism 'ere." So the reason given by one soldier may bo taken with a grain of salt, though it is worth recording nevertheless. A number of men had 6tated their reasons for going—most of them wore quite casual ones—when a quiet chap said: "Well, I'm going beoauso I want a fruit farm. I don't see auy chance of ' getting ono if I stay here. And if I go and come back safely thero's a good chance of getting one." No one spoke for a moment. Then a soldier said:
"You're a far-sighted - bloke, all riglit."
