A GROWING ARMY
MORE MEN TO-DAY 2000 PASSING THROUGH THE CITY LOCAL MEN 10 MARCH This week the majority of the men for the Twelfth Reinforcements will pass through Wellington on their way to the training camps. Altogether, about 2000 will go through, and the majority of them will be men from outside the city. The city's share of this month's forces is 204 men for the 12th Reinforcements and 22 prospective n.c.o.'s for the 14th Reinforcements, a total of 226. Tho city has (on paper) secured its quotas of men and n.c.o.'s, and they are all to assemble at tho Drill Hall, Buckle Street, at 8 o'clock this morning. The men from the whole Dominion for the Twelfth should, it lis stated, total about 2220, supplied by the four military districts as follows: — Auckland military district ... 600 ' Wellington military district ... 751 Canterbury military district... 51jt Otago military district 355
Dominion total 2220 The draft is being mobilised under a new concentration scheme. The details will concentrate as follows:— Mounted Rifles, Army Service Corps, ano Veterinary Corps at Tauherenikau. Artillery, Engineers, Signal Service, and Infantry at Trentham. Field Ambulance at Awapuni. The city quotas of men and n.c.o.'s for the Mounted Rifles and Army Service Corps, numbering 43, are due to leavo the Drill Hall at 9.30 to entrain for the Wairarapa rendezvous. Tho city infantry, engineers,, signallers, and artillery aj# timed to march off shortly before 10 o'clock. They will be preceded by the sth Regiment Band, and may be accompanied by tho Taranaki men, who, were to arrive in Wellington last night, and camp at Buckle StreetThere may bo over 300 men in this inarch, for the city recruits bound for Irentham should total 181, and tho l'aranaki men for the same camp 128. At 12.30 the ambulance quota will proceed to Thorndon Station to entrain for Awapuni.
The -City military are confident of sending a full quota into camp. A big majority of the men who were notified that they were required replied stating that they will be in attendance at tho appointed timei Further, not one refusal or excuse has been received. ' 111 addition to the 751 being called up from the Wellington Military District for the 12th Reinforcements, 44 n.c.o.'te for tho 14th are being asked for, which make the gross draw on the district this month 795. , 'The five groups of which the district is composed have been allotted the n.c.o.'s as follows; — City and suburbs 22 Manawatu and Wanganui 8 Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay 6 Wairarapa '~.. 4 Taranaki 4 Each group is to contribute to the gross total as follows: — City 226 Manawatu v 161 Hawke's Bay 144 Wairarapa 103 ' Taranaki 156
