Tho selection is not altogether a surprise, as it was_ thought probable that Sir George Reid would enter politics in England. The vacancy is caused by Sir A. Henderson's elevation to the peerage. Mr. Gibson Bowles, the Independent ■ Unionist candidate, will possibly retire, _ in view of Sir George Reid's selection.] SIR GEORGE REID'S RESIGNATION. ACCEPTED BY FEDERAL CABINET. (Rec. The Executive accepts Sir George Reid's resignation of the High Commissionership forthwith, thereby overcoming the difficulty of tho retention of a salaried office standing in the way of his candidature for tho House of Commons.
