Miss Coatcs, the president, is convening a full meeting of the council and executive, etc., of the Victoria League at tho Y.M.C.A. oil Tuesday, January 12, at fivo o'clock to consider tho best means of responding to Sliss Talbot's letter, published in last Friday's paper, containing an urgent appeal from tho English Victoria League on Lehalf of tho unfortunate Russian prisoners captive in Germany. . Miss Coates earnestly desires a full attendance on Tuesday at five o'clock, especially of the council I and executive, as the business to be considered is important. "Mrs. Cardale is at tho Hotel Windsor for a few days to meet Captain Cardale, who is returning on siclc leave. Tho engagoment is announced of Miss Olemmy Wilson, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilson, of Rangitumau, Wnirarapa, to Captain A. T. Cornish, late chief officer of the Government steamer Hinemoa, eldest sou of Mr. J. R. Cornish, A.M.P. Society, Wellington. Mr. Arthur Emms, of Takafca (Nelson) and his two daughters (Hilda and Pearlo), are spending a few weeks in Christchurch. It is their intention to motor through and return on January 20. Mrs. 6. W. Russell and her daughter, Mrs. Teape, leave for Rotorua this evening, to bo present at the opening of tho now Sanatorium for Wounded Soldiers. They are returning to the Ministerial residence at tho end of the week. ' ' Mrs. Strickland (nee Miss Gertrude Hunt), who has been staying with her relatives in Auckland, is passing through Wellington to-day en routo to Nelson, where she will bo tho <juest of Mrs. Manoy! On her return trip Mrs. Strickland will spend some weeks in this city. The following visitors were at Bolton Ba.y for the Christmas and New Year holidays:—Mr. and Mrs. H. A. W. M'Kenzie and Miss Buck, Taita), Mrs. Burncll (Wellington), Miss Wailer (Napier), Mrs. Chalmers and family (Wellington), Mr. aiid'Mrs. .France and child (Lower Hutt), Mr; and Mrs. Dowbaken and Mr. Weeks (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. Richmond' Fell and family' (Nelson), Mr. J. M'Kenzio (Wellington), Miss Sandero (Pahautanul). At the residence' of the bride's uncle, Sir. H. Thomas,.lsland Bay, Miss Coralie Isabel Smith, eldest daughter of 'Mr. W. J. Smith, of Swindon, Wiltshire; England, was recently married to Mr/ Harold Taylor, only son of Mr. H. Taylor, Dannevirke, the Bev. E. R. Weston officiating. Hie bride, who was attired in embroidered silk crepe, woro a veil and orange blossom bandeau, and carried a bouquet/of roses and fern. Miss Bessie Poore, of Christchurch, attended as bridesmaid, wearing embroidered voile, with a ; white hat trimmed with orange, and a bouquet of yellow and white flowers. Mr. Noble Bryden acted as best man.
