A PATRIOTIC FARMER
MR. P. A, M'HARDY
■ Since the war broke out Mr. Percy Alexander M'Hardy, of Beaulieu, Palmorston North, haa _ contributed something like £10,000 in various ways to the numerous patriotic funds. One of his gifts is tho corner section in the town . of' Palmerston North which is now being raffled iu aid of the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund,. This section is estimated to be worth £3000 Mr. M'Hardy is always one of tho first to contribute to a deserving appeal, and was one of the first to assist the Belgian Relief Fund, his donation beine £1000.
Mr. M'Hardy is the younger son of the late Mr. Alexander M'Hardy, of Blackhead' Estate, Hawke's Bay. He was born in Napier in 1865; educated at the Napier High School and file Nelson College. Mr. M Hardy was then equipped with a business training in the office of Messrs. Buckland and Co., Auckland,'and afterwards devoted his attention to farming. Mr. and Mrs. M'Hardy have been residents in the Manawatu for nearly eighteen years.' Mr. M'Hardy also owns property in the Hawke's Bay—the "Aramoana" Estate, in the Patangata County. He is one of the best known figures in the Manawatu, aind ■ has always taken a keen interest in all matters having for their object the advancement of the community in which lie lives. He. has been an officer of the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association for about eighteen years/ serving one year as President: Ho was noted as a breeder of' Shorthorn cattle a few years ago, but latterly has given up the show-ring. Sir. M'Hardy is one of the most public-spiriteH men in the province, and has assisted with liberal donations all deserving objects. Not only has Mr. M'Hardy given freely to the patriotic funds, but lie is an active member of tho Manawatu Patriotic Society and other organisations having for their object the stimulation of recruiting and the relief of suifering resulting from . tlie war.
