NATIONAL SERVICE
PRIME MINISTER CORRECTS 'AN ERROR. The Prime Minister wishes to correct a slight inaccuracy in the Press Association report of a statement made by him at Palmerston on Thursday night about national service. , Mr. Massey gave the following account of what ho said on the subject to a Dominion-reporter yesterday: "What I said about national service was that it would have been a very good thing if Britain had adopted national service ten years ago, so that she would havo; had an army of trained men ready for any trouble that might arise. 1 saij that, personally, I was a believer in national service, but there was difficulty m changing from one-system to another while war was actually going on', lien I pointed out that we require for the presemt year 30,000 men, not in addition to the 45,000 already raised, but we should require to send 30,000 men in addition to the 31,000 already at the front and on thoir way there at the end of 1915."-' •
