THE BARALONG CASE
American press comments 3y Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyrlglit (Itec. January 7, 11.45 p.m.) New-York, January 7. New York newspapers comnicnt that the British Note on the Baralong case does not deny the facts contained iii the affidavits of the Americans .aboard the Nioosian, and point out that the broad hints contained in tho German Note are apparently intended to convey the threat that Germany would consider the absence of punishment of the alleged perpetrators by the British Government as a full excuse for reprisals. They also publish a London message declaring that it is believed the next stop to ho'oxpected will tako tn« form of shooting a number of captured British officers and men, equalling those lost on the submarine which the Baralong sank. It is considered unlikely that Germany will accept Sir Edward Grey's suggestion of an investigation by American naval officers.
