AN OPERATION OR DEATH By Telegraph—Presn Association—Oooyri?ht ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) (Rec, January 6, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 5. The Paris "Matin" accepts the theory that the Kaiser is suffering from cancer, and recalls the fact that in February, 1912, a French surgeon was called on to remove the larynx, substituting an artificial voicebox and respiratory tube leading to the trachea. 'Die Kaiser was afraid ■ of losing his speech, and preferred the smaller operation. The disease, in its inexorable advance, is now undoubtedly giving him the clioico of death by suffocation, or submittingl to the severe operation of cut> ting out the larynx. The Kaiser is stricken with partial aphonia (absence of voice,. that'is, of intonated utterance), and is suffering morally and physically unimaginable pangs. He is confined to ail innermost chamber in the pslaco.
