LATE NEWS
HAMILTON'S DISPATCH ; By Tolesranh—Press Association—Copyright (Itec. January 7, 1.20 a.m.) London, January 6. ; In order to carry out the plan for j smuggling a large number of troops to i tlie Anzac landing and a large force af Suvla, it was essential to eliminate ■ i moonlight. Unless the plunge wai taken in the second week of August the whole venture must.be postponed for a month. Having decided on the 1 plan and the date, it was necessary to fill up the intervening period with as much fighting as possible. Working J out the ammunition allowance, I .found I could accumulate enough high explosives to deliver one serious attack every three weeks. \ One of these actions was the attack oil ! the Tasmania post, which was threatened by the extension of the I'urkisli i trench. The task of capturing this was : .entrusted to the Third Australian Brigpdo. On July 31 four assaulting par- ; ties of the 11th Battalion dashed forward and crossed our barbed wire ou planks. Directly a series of mines were I fired, and tliey were into the craters be- ' ■ fore the whole debris had fallen. There 1 were only eleven killed and seventyfour wounded, compared with a hundred Turkish killed. '
