The appointment of Miss Prossley Smith, a loading Suffragist organiser, as secretary to the British Legation at Christiania, is regarded as a notable triumph for lier sex, it being the first time that a woman has attained a post of this kind, which gives access to the closely-guarded Diplomatic Corps. Representations were made to Mr. Asquith a short time ago. on the desirability ot opening the higher branches of the Civil Service and other Government appointments to women with university attainments.
