LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
LONELY NEW ZEALANDERS. Sir, —Just a few words through tlio columns of The Dominion— and of those of your contemporaries who will do me the kindness 'to copy this note in their papers—to lot the senders of letters and parcels to "Lonely New Zealanders," care of No. 15/67, Lieut. Donald iM'Curdy, know that he writes, under date of November 24, a letter of 112 words in which he states ho has distributed all letters ami parcels sent to liis care to lonely soldiers as desired. He encloses a few "stamps from parcels and packages, from which (among others) I notice the following postmarks: Greatford,_ Moray Place, Lower Hutt, Gore, Richmond, Fairlie, Masterton, Otaki, Feilding, Westport, Ravensbourne, Christchurch, Palnierston North, Waverlcy, etc. You will see that "our folk" out here have been responding to the call of the lonely man from all parts of the Dominion. Will your readers recollect during the current year that every mail-day there are men in hospital at tho front who get no letter, and who get a "dip" into tho lucky bag, as fche_ "Lonely New Zealander" mail bag is termed, until every ' man in hospital has got a letter or the supply is exhausted! My son mentions that ho received three of our weekly letters on November 17, when 776 bags of correspondence and 325 cases of parcels were received at his "Advance Base Post Offico" to be sorted. As three mails thus arrived in ono batch, it is likely that some of your readers will be having complaints tliat no letters • reached their soldier friends during the previous fortnight.—l am, etc., ANGUS J. JI'CURDY. Hutt Valley "Independent."
