NEW MILITARY OFFICER ARRIVES
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF TRAINING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, January 5. Major Sleeman, of the Royal Sussex Regiment, and 1 a-member of the General Start", has come to New Zealand to act as Assistant Director of Military Training. He arrived by the Kuahine, and will procced to "Wellington by train. Major Sleeman has had a wide military experience, and lie went to France with the First Division at the commencement of the war. Ho was closely associated with the recent operations in France and Flanders, and was in the fighting at La Bassce leading up to the recent struggle at Loos, and was still in France when he received the appointment which caused him to come to New Zealand. Referring to the oxploits of New Zealand's troops, Major Sleeman said: "It has been a great pleasure to me to como out on this boat with some of tho heroes of the Gallipoli landing, particularly as the feeling of the Army in France was one of intense admiration for the gallantry and skill , displayed in the landing, which did so much to draw oil" pressure at an opportune time."
